Take a Little Trip: Barcelona

When I traveled to Barcelona in 2007, I was surprised to become so smitten with the city. As I rambled along Las Ramblas and ambled through the ambulatories of Barcelona's churches, I started to adore the city's architecture.

My time in Barcelona was also marked by the development of a big-time crush on the work of architect Antoni Gaudi. Gaudi's Modernisme (the Catalan equivalent of Art Nouveau) enchants and at times befuddles its viewers.

His simultaneous architectural innovation and nostalgia result in truly unique spaces. Standing in front of Sagrada Familia or wandering through Parc Güell, you feel a sense of timelessness and monumentality.
