My recent t.v. obsession is the Texas high school football drama: Friday Night Lights. I discovered it late in the game (pun intended)only a few months ago, right before the debut of the long-anticipated 4th season on NBC. And, like all of my favorite dramas (The Sopranos, The Wire, Dexter), the character development is what instantly hooked me.
This show is about way more than football. It's about the ordinary flaws and triumphs of everyday folks. But, what really allows the show to shine is the superb casting. In particular, Tami Taylor (Connie Britton), as the coach's wife, is perfection.
While I could write a 5 paragraph essay on Tami's credence as a character, what I've chosen to focus on here is far more superficial: her awesome ass-kickin' cowboy boots. As principal of the high school, she often wears pencil skirts or tailored dresses, but almost always her feet are decked out, Texas-style, in brown leather cowboy boots. Consequently, I want to bring this look to my wardrobe. I am on the hunt for some spectacular boots.

The cool thing about boots is they never go out of fashion. My sister has a pair of red, hand-tooled boots my mother wore in her 20's. Mom, a Texas beauty, wore them with jeans into her 60's. Worn with a dress, they accentuate the length of the leg but also provide a great contrast between the femininity of the dress and the masculine leather. Not only do I like my boots for a heel-stompin' boot-scoot-and-boogie but I like the no-nonsense Dixie Chicks' aesthetic, the drama of boots. Should she need to, wouldn't any woman give a two-timin' man the boot? Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under is a favorite Shania Twain.
