Time and Punishment

Why are we so hard on ourselves when we do something that is perceived as wasted time?  Reading this blog, flipping through a design magazine, spending extra time perusing junky jewelry at Target or painting your toes purple---these are all activities we women often view as time wasted.

We could be putting in an extra hour at work.  We would be much better off if we had spent this hour at the gym.  We should have made dough from scratch rather than popping a frozen CPK pizza in the oven.

One of my all-time favorite episodes of Sex and the City is "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda," featured in Season 4. In her usual insightful way, Carrie Bradshaw asks herself, "why are we "should-ing" all over ourselves?"
Ultimately, she resolves: "As we drive along this road called life, occasionally a gal will find herself a little lost.  And when that happens, I guess she had to let go of the coulda, shoulda, woulda, buckle up and just keep going."

So, take cue from the sage Carrie and stop obsessing about what was---focus on what is.  Delight in your life now and forget the coulda, shoulda, wouldas.  Waste a little time.  Have a little fun.
