A Kiss to Build a Dream on

Once I got in an argument with a girlfriend inside of a tent. That's a bad place for an argument, because I tried to walk out, and had to slam the flap.” -Mitch Hedberg, Comedian
No marriage is perfect.  June and Ward Cleaver do not exist beyond the tube.  Let's face it, in every relationship, there will be contention.  And, in most marriages, those fights tend to be circular and cyclical.  I don't know about you, but hubby and I have the same arguments every 3.5 weeks.  Most of those arguments are about the most mundane, daily tasks.

Guess what, honey, I still don't understand why a 31 year old man plays video games or can't remember to take out the festering trash?  But, I'm assuming that my habit of watching bad reality t.v. or leaving a single square of toilet paper on the roll annoys him just the same.

What I'm coming to understand after five years of marriage and ten years together is that arguments and bickering can be expected.  It is how you move on from those verbal scuffles that builds your connection and helps you endure as a couple.

One of the reasons I know my husband is the man for me, for always, is that I simply cannot stay mad at the man.  Even when we have one of our usual he said/she said arguments, within hours, sometimes minutes, he offers his trademark toothy grin and all is well again.  As the old proverb indicates, "you must taste the bitter to enjoy the sweet."  And, this weekend, we had just a sprinkling of the bitter, but it made the sweet so much sweeter.

  1. It's important for men to remember
"If mama ain't happy, no one's happy."

Or as Teresa from Real Housewives of NJ says,
"For a happy life, have a happy wife."

  2. Hubby knows Teresa's mantra all too well.... :) He has been reminded of it on occasion.
