Sunday Brunching

I cannot think of a meal I adore more than brunch.  (Well, in my pregnant state, pre-breakfast, second breakfast, big Euro-style lunch and midday snack are close to a tie with brunch).  Brunch means your guests will be fresh off a restful night of slumber.  Brunch means you can prepare much of your meal the evening before. And brunch means you can justify eating both sugary baked goods and eggy-cheesy goodness in the same glorious feast.
There is something about Mother's Day that practically commands, "thou shalt brunch to honor thy mother."  While that particular commandment may be missing from the Old Testament, I still honor it with reverence.  For what momma would not love an entire meal devoted just to her?

The ideal combination for brunch is quite simple: something eggy, something sweet, something fruity and the requisite bacon.  Add coffee and mimosas (or the far less thrilling fizzy o.j. that I consumed). Enjoy!

My basic brunch yesterday included the following:
Farm fresh strawberries & blueberries with a little sugar glaze.  Serve with Greek yogurt and honey on the side.
Mini heirloom tomatoes & poached asparagus.
Orange-coconut sticky buns (Recipe adapted from here. My alterations: only use 18 rolls instead of 24.  Add 1 cup of shredded coconut, 1-2 tablespoons of orange zest to butterscotch mixture. Be extra generous with your cinnamon. Use pecan pieces instead of walnuts.  Bake for 45 minutes.)
Prosecco mimosa with a splash of ginger ale.
Scrambled eggs with chives & Ina's maple roasted bacon.
Serve at cozy table with some special feminine touches.
Happy Brunching, my friends!

    from the orange-coconut sticky buns
to the savory scrambled eggs with salsa
    and the champagne mimosas.
